Who we are

The Institute for Global Education & Service-Learning (IGESL) is a non-profit organization that provides training and technical assistance to schools, community organizations, and National Service programs. The Institute is one of thirteen agencies named in the National and Community Service Act of 1993 as a central resource for service-learning programs. It is the Atlantic Regional Center for the National Service Learning Exchange and the hosting agency for national and international service-learning conferences.

Our Mission

The Institute for Global Education and Service-Learning, a non-profit training organization, creates service-learning programs and initiates activity based education in collaboration with schools and organizations around the world.

What the Institute can do for you

IGESL provides technical assistance to practitioners throughout the United States. This includes the following:

  • Trains teachers, administrators, Youth, Senior Corps, AmeriCorps programs, and community-based organizations in service-learning methodology
  • Provides publications on service-learning in education
  • Helps create service-learning programs in schools
  • Introduces educators to a network of service-learning practitioners
  • Sponsors conferences for teachers and students
  • Stimulates education reform in school districts
  • Assists schools, teachers and students in assessing the effectiveness of service-learning programs and in designing improvement strategies
  • Provides training and orientation for volunteers serving schools and communities
